Mission Statement

Bayan Arts Foundation

The Bayan Arts Foundation is dedicated to fostering global understanding and cultural exchange through music. We believe in the power of music as a universal language that transcends boundaries, connecting people and cultures. Our mission is to support and empower musicians, particularly those with limited resources, to explore, study, and experience diverse musical traditions around the world. By providing resources and opportunities, we strive to nurture talent, encourage cultural sharing, and contribute to the global music community's enrichment.

Global Harmony Music Scholarship

The Global Harmony Music Scholarship aims to bridge cultural divides and enrich the musical landscape by offering aspiring musicians from the United States the opportunity to immerse themselves in non-Western musical traditions. This grant is more than financial support; it's a gateway to cross-cultural dialogue, artistic growth, and global musical fusion. We are committed to helping musicians expand their horizons, bring diverse music back to their communities, and serve as ambassadors of cultural exchange and understanding.

Foundation & grant story

Officially established in 2024, the Bayan Arts Foundation has been a work-in-progress since 2016. Created by musician Sasha Bayan, the foundation and its grants are his way to give back to the musical community while also honoring his sitar guru, the late Raja Angara.

Sasha’s journey in the world of music is marked by an extensive exploration of diverse global traditions and a deep commitment to artistic expression. His personal experiences in studying various music forms worldwide have significantly influenced his decision to establish the Global Harmony Music Scholarship.

Through this grant, Sasha intends to facilitate a cultural and educational exchange that can significantly benefit young musicians. The goal is not only to enhance their musical abilities and knowledge but also to enable them to act as cultural ambassadors, bridging gaps and bringing diverse musical narratives to their communities in the United States. The foundation and its grants enable these musicians to explore global music cultures, develop their unique artistic voices, and contribute distinctively to the music industry.

About the founder

Professional musician, recording artist, and songwriter Sasha Bayan attributes his musical career and vision on his early experiences of global learning and musical development.

Educated at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music, Sasha’s academic and professional endeavors have taken him to countries like Spain, Brazil, and India, where he studied Flamenco guitar, Brazilian music styles, and Hindustani music, respectively. These experiences were not just about learning different musical styles but also about overcoming the challenges associated with accessing these opportunities, particularly financial constraints.

Recognizing the impact these global learning experiences had on his own musical development, Sasha is committed to providing similar opportunities to other aspiring musicians. The grant aims to support U.S. students who show exceptional talent and interest in non-Western music traditions but may lack the necessary resources to pursue such studies abroad. Sasha’s vision is rooted in creating a legacy of opportunity and artistic growth, where the support offered today lays the foundation for tomorrow's musical innovations.
